Frithstead is based on the ancient concept of friþgeard meaning an "enclosure or sanctuary"  given over to the worship of the gods, a place where Frith is valued and maintained always.  We desire Frithstead to be a place of safety and openness for all involved.

The word Frith (Frið) is often translated as "peace" but the full meaning of frith extends well beyond this simple modern word, to cover essential foundations of human social interaction.  Peace as we understand it is generally an outgrowth of frithful behavior or the conditions of frith being met.  Therefore Frith has a great deal to do not only with the state of peace but also with the nature of social relationships conducive to that peace.
